In the Name of the Law - Hamburg's Legal History. A Walk Through Justice, Power and Jurisdiction in the Hanseatic City

This city walk takes you to the key sites of Hamburg's legal history - from the Town Hall and the Trostbrücke to the courthouse buildings along Holstenwall. The focus is on how law was administered, enforced and overseen across the centuries: from early forms of council justice and open-air courts to the modern judiciary. The tour also touches on darker chapters - imprisonment, persecution and lesser-known aspects of the city's past.

Historic locations such as the Stadthöfe, former prisons and significant administrative buildings trace the evolution of justice and punishment over the centuries.

When: every Friday, 4:00 pm, from 1 May to 30 October
Start: Town Hall, in front of the main entrance
End: Oberverwaltungsgericht at Sievekingplatz
