Peter Lehel's Finefones Saxophone Quartet — Evangelische Schlosskirche St. Michael, Pforzheim

An extraordinary blend of sound and groove: the Finefones Saxophone Quartet celebrates the entire saxophone family in four-part purity - no drums, no harmony instrument. Through refined arrangements and compositions by Peter Lehel, the ensemble grooves, resonates and improvises with subtle sonic finesse and raw energy.

With "Four Trane - Celebrating 100 Years John Coltrane", the quartet pays tribute to the spiritual power and restless innovation of the jazz giant. It is a compelling homage to the work and magic of one of the most groundbreaking musicians of the last century. Previously, the group spanned the range from Deep Purple to Led Zeppelin with "Purple Pearls of Pop". Their earlier programme "Chamber Jazz Quartets" brought together classical models from Johann Sebastian Bach to Astor Piazzolla and filtered them through jazz idiom.

Karlsruhe-based musician Peter Lehel, recipient of the Baden-Württemberg State Jazz Prize, shapes the group's distinctive sound as composer and arranger. Alongside him: Olaf Schönborn (alto), Christian Steuber (tenor) and Pirmin Ullrich (baritone) - four distinct voices forming one breathing, vibrating whole between jazz and classical music.
