Bach to the roots
Kirchenruine Wachau, Markkleeberg, Germany
20 €
A summer evening at one of the region's most evocative venues: the idyllic church ruin in Wachau plays host to Uwaga!, one of the most original ensembles working the space between chamber music, world music and jazz. Open air, under a sky full of history, musical curiosity meets a place steeped in the past.
With "Bach to the roots", the ensemble traces the footsteps of Johann Sebastian Bach - Leipzig's most celebrated former resident, blessed with a rather fine ear - and ventures well beyond. Violin, accordion, double bass and percussion cast his music in a new light, weaving it together with Balkan rhythms, improvisation, jazz and the group's own sonic ideas. The result is a dialogue between tradition and the present that is as virtuosic as it is unexpected.
Uwaga! is known for compelling stage presence, stylistic openness and sheer joy of playing. A concert full of energy, wit and genre-crossing - at a setting that seems made for memorable summer evenings.
*In case of rain, the alternative venue is the small but lovely village church in Störmthal.
