As the nights grow longer and the year draws to a close, the Gezeitenkonzerte series concludes with a particularly atmospheric final chord. In the year's last concert, "Malte Viefs Kammer" arrives with their "Winter" programme - a musical invitation to pause and reflect, far removed from the usual pre-Christmas bustle and opening space for genuine contemplation. The musicians, already well known to East Frisian audiences from numerous previous performances, this time strike quieter, introspective notes.

At the heart of the evening stand familiar melodies that appear in an entirely new, timeless guise. Leipzig guitarist and composer Malte Vief, violinist Thomas Fleck, and cellist Matthias Hübner free old songs like "Es kommt ein Schiff geladen", "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen", and "Maria durch ein Dornwald ging" from all sentimentality, instead revealing the mystical and moving core of these pieces in transparent, floating arrangements. These sensitive reinterpretations blend seamlessly with Vief's own compositions, which translate the character of the season into sonic images. The heart of the programme is the small suite "Winterreise", which bears no relation to Schubert but speaks its own language: in movements like "Schneeflocke", the instruments capture the fleeting delicacy of the first snow, while "Winternacht" makes audible the clear, cold silence and expanse of the starry sky.

Yet the trio's musical horizon reaches even further back. The three musicians pay tribute to the masters of the Renaissance and Baroque. These historical forms appear far from dusty; through the ensemble's distinctive style - an organic fusion of classical polyphony, the energy of rock, and folkloric melody - they are brought into the present.
