20 Years of Hermann Frommhold

In honour of Hermann Frommhold: 20 years as chairman of the Society of Friends of the Schloss Concerts Bad Krozingen e.V.

Franz Schubert: Piano Trio in B-flat major D 28
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Trios in D major op. 70 No. 1 "Ghost Trio" and E-flat major op. 70 No. 2

While Beethoven was working on his Symphonies Nos. 5 and 6, he was staying at the estate of Countess Marie Erdödy in Floridsdorf. As a token of gratitude for her hospitality, he dedicated both piano trios op. 70 to her - composed at the same time and first performed in the winter of 1808 at the countess's home, with the composer himself at the keyboard. These trios rank among Beethoven's most original works. The evening opens with the single-movement Piano Trio in B-flat major D 28, in which the fifteen-year-old Franz Schubert first explores the combination of piano and strings.
