It Was the Lark — Schirrhof, Potsdam

A comedy by Ephraim Kishon in a translation by Friedrich Torberg

This comedy by Ephraim Kishon explores the married life of Romeo and Juliet more than 30 years after their supposed death, in a humorous and ironic manner. The couple - Romeo as a ballet teacher and Juliet as a nagging housewife - struggle with the typical challenges of a monotonous married life, somewhere between "Who's doing the dishes?" and "Do you even still love me?". Their rebellious daughter Lucretia, the chatty nurse, and the charming yet senile Father Lorenzo create additional turmoil. When the ghost of William Shakespeare appears, he attempts to bring order to this undignified chaos. The resolution of the dilemma is brilliant and more than surprising for everyone involved!

The NEUE GLOBE THEATER, founded in 2015 by Andreas Erfurth, Sebastian Bischoff, and Kai Frederic Schrickel, is an independent actor-led theatre company from Potsdam that emerged from the ensemble "Shakespeare and Partner" in Berlin. With "It Was the Lark," the NEUE GLOBE THEATER stages a masterpiece by Ephraim Kishon in which classic literary figures are seen in a new light. Enriched with musical elements, this comedy guarantees an entertaining theatrical experience.
