Tunnel Tour - Underground Traces in Wetzlar
Jägerdenkmal, Wetzlar, Germany
10 €
This is "the other city tour" - dedicated to one of the darkest chapters in Wetzlar's history. During the Second World War, Wetzlar was a hub of advanced military technology. When the bombing campaign reached the city, industrial companies moved their production underground: prisoners of war and local miners blasted extensive tunnel networks into the surrounding hills and mountains, where opticians and mechanics, alongside forced labourers, kept war-critical manufacturing running.
The tunnels also provided shelter for Wetzlar's civilian population during air raids. The camouflage was so effective that the Americans only discovered what they had missed when they marched into the city.
The tour is suitable for young people aged 14 and over, accompanied by adults. Children under 14 cannot participate.
