Tunnel Tour - Underground Traces in Wetzlar
Jägerdenkmal, Wetzlar, Germany
10 €
This city tour focuses on one of the darkest chapters in Wetzlar's history. During the Second World War, Wetzlar was a hub of advanced military technology - when the bombing campaign reached the city, industrial firms moved their production underground. Prisoners of war and local miners blasted extensive tunnel systems into the surrounding hills, where opticians and mechanics worked alongside forced labourers to keep war-critical manufacturing running. At the same time, parts of Wetzlar's civilian population sheltered here from air raids.
The camouflage was so effective that the Americans only discovered what had been hidden from them when they marched into the city.
The tour is suitable for young people aged 14 and over, provided they are accompanied by an adult. Children under 14 cannot take part.
