"Neptun-Express" to Hanse Sail in Warnemünde
Hauptbahnhof Cottbus, Germany
The "Neptun-Express" has been running as a special train to Hanse Sail since 2001 - this year marks its 25th journey. Hanse Sail itself is celebrating its 35th edition: numerous historic sailing ships and boats gather for the windjammer parade on the East German Baltic coast, featuring regattas, excursions, and open-ship visits.
From Warnemünde station it is just a few metres to the Alter Strom and the Warnow. Those interested can join a boat trip from Warnemünde and accompany the large sailing ships directly on the Baltic Sea during the windjammer parade. Those who prefer to stay in the city can disembark at Rostock main station and explore the city harbour - re-boarding is possible at both stops as long as the train's departure is not missed.
Optional excursion - harbour cruise on the Baltic Sea: The MS "Käpp`n Brass" departs from Alter Strom Bahnhofsbrücke in Warnemünde and heads out to sea. Snacks and drinks are available on site for cash payment. Capacity is limited, so early booking is recommended.
Boarding points: Cottbus, Calau, Finsterwalde, Luckau-Uckro, Baruth (Mark), Rangsdorf, Blankenfelde, Berlin-Lichtenberg, Rostock.
Onboard the special train, a service team in the buffet or bistro car provides meals and drinks at reasonable prices, including beer from Landskron BRAU-MANUFAKTUR Görlitz, mineral water, and Bauer fruit juices from Bad Liebenwerda. Since the proceeds from catering contribute to the maintenance of the vehicles, passengers are asked not to bring their own food and drinks.
