Jazzfest HfMdK\n\nTribute to Jim McNeely\n\nDavid Hveem | conductor\n\nWe dedicate this evening to someone who left an indelible mark on the Frankfurt Radio Big Band: Jim McNeely was with us for sixteen years, first as principal conductor, then as composer in residence. He was one of the most distinguished arrangers and bandleaders of our time. When he retired in 2024, we named Jim honorary conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Big Band. Sadly, he passed away in 2025. We will once again perform the most beautiful pieces he worked on with us and wrote for us, in his honor.\n\nJim's music captivated audiences and musicians alike. He wrote fascinating pieces with a wholly distinctive musical voice, and shaped the Frankfurt Radio Big Band into an ensemble that grew beyond its previous limits. With great sensitivity he recognized and nurtured the individual talents of each band member - something you can still hear in the solos he tailored for them. We were even nominated together for a Grammy for the album "Barefoot Dances and Other Visions". Norwegian conductor David Hveem will lead the band through Jim's arrangements and compositions on this special evening.\n\nConcert duration: approx. 120 minutes - including interval
