But our genius could not refuse an invitation from an old acquaintance, the Baroness von Zuckerberg, to a gala dinner. So this evening we dine in the adjacent room of the restaurant, where you will enjoy a delicious three-course menu.

Fleeing from his table neighbour, the endlessly chatty Swabian Baroness, the detective barely misses the supposed murder of the host's husband, Baron von Zuckerberg.

True, his health was no longer in the best condition. But collapsing face-first into maultäsche soup is not even in Swabia a genteel way to die. For Sherlock Holmes, however, what had been a deadly dull evening is suddenly saved.

A mystery in local dialect awaits us, and a particularly tricky one at that, for the examination results seemingly rule out any poisoning. The interrogation of witnesses, the medical examiner, and some of the dinner guests makes many innocent people in the hall appear suspicious.
With enthusiasm and in high spirits, the famous detective sets his little grey cells to work. Swabian shrewdness is already spreading, but no false builder can fool this master so easily. For him, the solution soon becomes clear. As always, however, he leaves us in the dark a while longer before virtuously exposing the murderer.
