COLLOQUIAL
1. To act without a clear direction, to express oneself vaguely (and therefore get nowhere).
2. colloquial: to move uncertainly, unevenly, aimlessly.
Ms. Tausendschön had actually settled quite comfortably into lethargy, planning to drift gently toward retirement - accompanied by her pandemic puppy, a somewhat shrunken brain, and the considerable weight gained from excessive pleasure-cooking and bread-baking. But it wasn't to be, because the source still bubbles - that delightful spring of creativity. Not quite as relentlessly and wildly as before, but enough for an artist's soul, frayed by irrelevance, to bathe in satisfaction and joy.
What has humanity been doing for more than a year? Politicians, amateur virologists, checkout clerks, footballers? They're all muddling along, every last one of them. And Nessi Tausendschön muddles along with them. She has, in fact, perfected the art of muddling - nobody does it as gracefully and as stage-worthily as she does. Her topics include traffic islands, our language, gender equality, front-garden planting, and the tiresome world of politics. It's plain to see how vulnerable we are, how dependent on each other, and how thoroughly our own shortcomings shake us up. They say the greatest crises breed the most creative ideas. And so Ms. Tausendschön has been sitting in her garden for two summers now, waiting for inspiration.
A cactus flower is so beautiful and so intoxicating precisely because it was barren for a whole year before. And if at the end of the evening you sit there wondering: what was that actually about? - perhaps it can be explained here, because Ms. Tausendschön herself cannot. In the end it's always just about the oil - every hairdresser knows that, or rather, every deep-fryer. One thing is certain: you'll leave thinking that Ms. Tausendschön brightened up an otherwise grey evening.
