My Fair Lady

Ever since the film adaptation starring Audrey Hepburn, Frederick Loewe's musical MY FAIR LADY has been one of the most performed stage works of the 20th century. Evergreens such as "Ich hätt' getanzt heut' Nacht", "Wär' das nicht wunderschön", "In der Straße wohnst du", "Bringt mich pünktlich zum Altar" and "'s grünt so grün wenn Spaniens Blüten blühen" have made it a true classic.
At the heart of the story is a question: can phonetics professor Henry Higgins transform London flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a high-society lady through language training alone? He takes the bet and puts the dustman's daughter through relentless speech exercises day and night - all while failing to notice that Eliza is not a stone statue but a young woman with her own desires. The charm of the plot moves between sharp social comedy and biting satirical observation.
The production comes from the Kölner Symphoniker - also known from the Helene Fischer Show - together with the Kölner Kammeroper. Alongside musical and choreographic finesse, it places particular emphasis on the dialogue and precise character direction.
