"When Overbeck Comes..." - Crime Reading with Roland Jankowsky

Roland Jankowsky has been a familiar face on German television for many years. Whenever his schedule allows, he finds his way back to the stage. It is largely his somewhat peculiar Detective Overbeck who turned the ZDF series "Wilsberg" into a cult favourite, building a large and still-growing fan base - despite the many blunders the character keeps stumbling into. In his reading, however, Jankowsky steers well clear of them.
Drawing on years of experience as a radio presenter and narrator, Roland Jankowsky performs a selection of "criminal" short stories. His alter ego seems to tag along even here - taking a seat uninvited at the reading desk and commenting on the performance with distinctive body language, the occasional aside, and a well-timed quip. A subtle interplay develops between the narrator and the actor, which the audience gets to watch with growing amusement - and it is precisely this that turns the evening into a wry, thoroughly entertaining show.
