ILLUSTRATED LECTURE: "The Traveller - Georg Forster and the Discovery of Humanity"

On 13 October 2026, Andrea Wulf reads from her new book about Georg Forster at the Hugendubel bookshop in Berlin Steglitz - an illustrated lecture.

The book portrays Forster as a naturalist, explorer and revolutionary: at seventeen, he joined Cook's second voyage around the world, exploring nature, people and cultures between Antarctica and the islands of the South Pacific, and returned with an idea of equality far ahead of his time. Back in Europe, he fought for freedom and equality, opposed imperialism and slavery, and eventually became the leader of the short-lived Mainz Republic. Drawing on Forster's extensive correspondence, Wulf paints a portrait of a passionate life.

Andrea Wulf, born in India and raised in Germany, now lives in London. She became known above all for her world bestseller "Alexander von Humboldt and the Invention of Nature" (2016, Bavarian Book Prize), translated into 27 languages. In German, she has also published "Die Vermessung des Himmels" (2012/2017), the graphic novel "Die Abenteuer des Alexander von Humboldt" (2019) and "Fabelhafte Rebellen" (2022). She writes for the New York Times, The Atlantic and the Financial Times and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
