WHEN HEAVY VOLXMUSIC WAS BORN

It was one of those evenings that happen on a small blue planet at the edge of a spiral galaxy called the "Milky Way". The last shops were closing, the first pubs opening, on the news the CDU was bickering with the SPD, Bush with Hussein, Hoeneß with Assauer, Little Red Riding Hood with the Wolf, and so on.

Even in an unassuming rehearsal room, universally known as "Muhbarack" (because it was a converted, former cow barn), everything proceeded in its usual way. As so often on weekends, a few rock musicians gathered there to torture guitars, pummel the drums, and completely shred their vocal cords. The obligatory two crates of beer and various spirits flowed, to spark some creativity, so in all that inspiration nobody seemed to notice what was brewing in the sky. White and blue cloud giants towered majestically and destructively across the otherwise pitch-black night sky, collapsed in on themselves only to immediately reform into an even more gigantic mass of water vapour. Lightning flashed and cast ghostly shadows on the empty silo tower that stood bravely before "Muhbarack", defying the lashing rain.

But our six, by now deeply "inspired" heavy rockers noticed none of it. Only milliseconds passed between the blinding flash and the explosion of the sockets along with the instruments plugged into them. Then an eerie silence fell over Muhbarack (which really doesn't happen very often!). Only the rumble of thunder echoed for a few more seconds, and the smoking amplifiers crackled, spitting out a few sparks, before they too surrendered to the silence that now reigned everywhere.

Only the chirping of birds and the slowly resuming traffic...
