"Es war, als hätt' der Himmel die Erde still geküsst"
Schumann's Liederkreis op. 39 is the quintessential masterwork of Romanticism. Beauty and musical poetry characterize the songs of the short-lived George Butterworth. A selection from Hugo Wolf's celebrated Mörike songs completes the programme.
Benjamin Appl, the last student of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, ranks among the great baritones of the younger generation. He lives in London and performs with his sensitive song partner Simon Lepper.
