Sonate-Trio-Suite — Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr, Bochum
Description was written before the event

Chamber music offers a special intimacy between audience and musicians, allowing listeners to appreciate the performers and their instruments outside the context of a large orchestra. This works particularly well in programmes that bring together works from different eras and styles, revealing how various periods developed playing techniques and favoured particular timbres. This concert does exactly that: a line-up of clarinet, violin and piano sounds as a trio and in different duo pairings, featuring compositions from Ludwig van Beethoven to Jörg Widmann - a must for clarinet enthusiasts and chamber music lovers in general!

Programme:

Jan Vanhal: Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano in E-flat Major op. 20 No. 5

Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata for Violin and Piano in G Major op. 30 No. 3

Jörg Widmann: "Tränen der Musen" for Clarinet, Violin and Piano

Johannes Brahms: Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in F Minor op. 120 No. 1

Igor Stravinsky: Suite from "L'Histoire du soldat" for Clarinet, Violin and Piano

Performers:

Julia Puls - Clarinet
Stephanie Himstedt - Violin
James Maddox - Piano
