2,500 years before "Succession", the Greek poet Aeschylus invented the series format: across three parts, he told the story of a dysfunctional ruling house whose members become playthings of the gods and tear each other apart in a cycle of guilt and revenge.

Australian-Swiss theatre director Simon Stone, known for his radical reinterpretations of classic texts, has stripped the myth of its patina and brought the ancient story of Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, Orestes and Electra into the present day. He shows us a family shattered by loss, desperately trying to escape its own history. And he asks questions that concern us all: why do traumas pass from generation to generation? Can we break free from the seemingly unstoppable spiral of violence and retaliation? Where does justice end and vigilantism begin? Stone's Oresteia is refreshingly modern, deeply human and - perhaps his greatest achievement - surprisingly funny.
