Description was written before the event

Considered unsinkable. On 10 April 1912, the RMS Titanic left Southampton harbour on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic towards New York. The goal was to cross the ocean in six days and set a new record. Over 2000 people were on board - and with them their hopes, longings, wishes and dreams, which sank in the night of 14-15 April within three hours after a collision with an iceberg. To stirring, dramatic music, with grand ensemble numbers and tender ballads, the musical offers insights into the lives and loves of various personalities who (historically documented) were actually aboard the ship.

The musical, which had its Broadway premiere in 1997, was awarded five Tony Awards, including in the categories "Best Musical", "Best Music" and "Best Book", and appeared in the same year as the legendary film of the same name by James Cameron starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Nearly 30 years later, the fascination with the world's largest passenger ship of that time and its tragic demise remains unbroken.

Director Matthias von Stegmann and set designer Simon Lima Holdsworth, who successfully brought the office spectacle "how to make a career without effort" to the stage in the 2023-24 season, guide the musical_company, the music theatre ensemble, the children's and opera choirs and the tfn_philharmonie through the "open sea".
