A Woman Who Knows What She Wants - operetta by Oscar Straus
Stadttheater Hildesheim - Großes Haus, Germany
19 €
An operetta by Oscar Straus, with a libretto by Alfred Grünwald based on Louis Verneuil's Le fauteuil 47, in a version by Joerg Steve Mohr.
Manon Cavallini knows what she wants - and as a celebrated singer, she usually gets it. Over the course of the operetta, we encounter no fewer than six of her former husbands and lovers. At the moment she has a young admirer: Raoul. But young Lucy is also in love with him, and she asks Manon to give up the sought-after bachelor for her sake.
What Lucy doesn't know - and isn't meant to know - is that Manon is her mother. In that role, Manon now pulls every string to make her daughter happy, while making sure she herself doesn't lose out.
