Yes, it's really true. For over 30 years I've been standing on stage with my own self-written lyrics and songs composed to match my guitar. Over all those years, just as many press texts were written as there were stage programmes. So this time I'm starting completely differently. No description of how brilliant and extraordinary the artist is, which stages he's played, or what awards are gathering dust on the shelf. No - I'll write the whole truth. At least about how it all began in 1992.

I arranged my first gig with the landlord of our local pub (in Bavarian: "Boazn") in Oberschleißheim. I asked him if I could perform my own songs there. His answer: "Sure, your fee is three beers and a pack of cigarettes. If you're bad, you'll get a slap on top!" Brilliant! I had my first deal in the bag. Thanks to the fact that I was genuinely good that evening, the audience was in great spirits, and the landlord had no reason to complain - that's why I'm still allowed to stand on stage today!

And so it went on. Up and down the country. Sometimes with a solo programme, sometimes with a band, and later with colleagues from the formation "3 Männer - nur mit Gitarre". What started out as mostly serious or reflective songs gradually shifted into musical-cabaret, increasingly funny material. I nearly forgot my quieter songs altogether in the joy of hearing the audience laugh. But honestly, those songs were - and still are - just as important to me.
