Mathias Tretter: Souverän
Stalburg Theater, Frankfurt, Germany
29 €
"Sovereign is he who decides on the state of exception." - Carl Schmitt was quite the loudmouth himself, which is probably why he ended up as Göring's yes-man. Germany's most notorious political apologist wrote that famous line in 1928, and we've been chewing on it ever since. Nearly a hundred years later, states of exception are everywhere - but who's actually sovereign?
Some say one thing, others say another, and the truth, as always, is somewhere else entirely. Mathias Tretter finds it once again with his friend Ansgar: "Being stoned is a state of exception, and I chose it myself." Democracy may be slowly losing its grip on power, but that's no reason to lose your self-control. Unless you wet yourself laughing - but isn't that the most sovereign thing of all?
"You will whinny," says Tretter, who since winning the Salzburger Stier in 2023 has now collected every cabaret award going. He still insists his latest show is his funniest yet: "You'll grin, snort, gasp for air, and go home feeling invincible." In other words: sovereign. The title says it all.
