Karosh Taha - Gulîstan — Literaturhaus Frankfurt, Frankfurt
Description was written before the event

The event takes place in a hybrid format (in-person ticket 12 / 8 euros, streaming ticket 5 euros, streaming subscription 50 euros). Hosted by Shirin Sojitrawalla.

Karosh Taha presents her third novel "Gulistan" (DuMont). The title character, Gulistan, is a Kurdish woman living in a country that persecutes her - for her language, her thinking, her very existence. Under Saddam Hussein's regime she leads a life in the shadows. When her husband Çiya disappears, the full weight of her powerlessness hits her - and when she finds him again, he is wearing the uniform of the Iraqi dictator, whose double he has become. The novel is built from opposing forces: torture, paranoia, love, and resilience.

Taha came to Germany at the age of ten. She debuted in 2018 with "Beschreibung einer Krabbenwanderung", followed by "Im Bauch der Königin" (2020).

The event is part of Tage des Exils Frankfurt, an initiative by the Körber-Stiftung in cooperation with the Deutsches Exilarchiv 1933-1945 of the German National Library.
