Karosh Taha sets her language against the destructive force of war, hatred, and oppression. Her debut novel, written by an author who came to Germany at age 10, already earned widespread acclaim. The title speaks for itself: "Description of a Crab Migration" (2018). Two years later came "In the Belly of the Queen". "Gulistan" is now the character that gives its name to her third novel (DuMont). Gulistan lives as a Kurdish woman in a country that is hostile to her - for her language, her thinking, her entire existence. Under Saddam Hussein's dictatorial regime, she leads a shadowy life. When her husband Çiya disappears, the full brutality of her powerlessness becomes clear. When she encounters him again, he wears the uniform of the Iraqi dictator, as his double... A novel forged from the conflicting forces of torture, paranoia, love, and above all, resilience. The evening is hosted by independent literary critic Shirin Sojitrawalla.
