IN:KON:SIS:TEN:ZEN - Revival — TD Berlin, Berlin

Success narratives shape the way we speak and think: every sentence, every glance, every gesture and every feeling is measured against them. How can these stories be rewritten - or stripped of their power? Armed with lost words, strained jokes, cinematic hyperrealities and musical melancholy, three performers attempt to break free and contradict the idea of "successful biographies".

IN:KON:SIS:TEN:ZEN moves along the edges of banality and post-splatter, drawing on an aesthetics of rupture. But - and this is the dilemma - even that requires a certain skill. Through contradictions, sentences left hanging in the air and contemplative exhaustion, the evening approaches what it means to be alive despite the pressure of success and expectation, and explores what remains open. A game of failure that wants neither to win nor to lose.

Malte Schlösser and his team try to escape the constraints of a performance-driven society - the compulsion to function, the ever-present expectations. The evening has no intention of succeeding - and yet it sets out to do exactly that: forge new connections and mark the moment of coming together.

"An evening that turns and twists around everything with equal athleticism and wit - where people slip on bananas, parody extreme physical theatre a la Holzinger [...] and yet the most beautiful insights into one's own dilemmas bloom." - Berliner Zeitung, 02.2023

"...that an evening about failure can succeed (...) is also down to the outstanding acting trio: behind Grahs' sceptical-ironic gaze, Rönnebeck's physical slapstick and Hohnloser's feigned naivety, whole worlds open up." - Berliner Morgenpost, 02.2023

"The linguistically rich and allusion-laden evening (text by Malte Schlösser) deftly skewers not only every cliche about artists... but also those of the audience members who engage with this art form. It deconstructs not only..."
