In his latest, completely reworked live-commentary travelogue, travel photographer Andreas Huber takes you through the sweeping landscapes and wildlife havens of Namibia. Feel the pull of the desert, be drawn in by the play of colours, and discover the natural wonders of a country that leaves a lasting impression.
Namibia, the former colony of "Deutsch-Südwest-Afrika", is considered the driest country south of the Sahara. The journey begins in the capital Windhoek, where reminders of the German colonial era appear around every corner, before heading to Swakopmund - arguably the most German town in Africa. More than 10,000 km from Europe, yet German is spoken and written everywhere you look.
Wildlife watching is naturally a highlight. Huber presents stunning images from Etosha National Park, Namibia's most famous game reserve. Far to the north, in the Zambezi Region, small boats take visitors on safari along the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers. Even the Namib Desert, widely regarded as one of the harshest environments on earth, turns out to be teeming with life.
The Spitzkoppe - Namibia's Matterhorn - is probably the most photographed mountain in the country. Its granite rock formations offer endless photographic subjects, and after dark an extraordinary sky takes over: billions of stars shine out of the blackness, and the Milky Way, barely visible at home, blazes across the sky. A dream for stargazers.
In the Erongo Region, a visit to the Cheetah Conservation Fund offers a close encounter with these elegant big cats and a look at the work being done to protect them.
At the San Living Museum, visitors can step into the world of Africa's former indigenous inhabitants and learn about the traditional way of life of the San people.
