Janika and Philip Görres are an artistic couple living and working in the Wendland, a region in eastern Lower Saxony known for the Gorleben protests and the highest density of artists in rural Germany.
Their indie folk pop music deals with stubbornness, vulnerability, anger, idleness and personal responsibility. At its core are their clear voices - singing in unison or two-part harmony - backed by atmospheric guitar textures or driving strumming. The two met in a physical theatre collective they joined after completing their acting training.
Since spring 2025, Thomas Sonntag has joined the duo on bass. On 24 October 2025 they released the new single "Wohin ich gehen will", created together with Niklas Loose and Thomas Sonntag. At the 43rd Deutschen Rock & Pop Preis on 13 December 2025, JaniPhil won the special category "Best Pop Song" for "Das verlorene Glück".
In spring 2026, Henry Herpell joined on drums. At the Kulturelle Landpartie 2026, JaniPhil will perform live as a full band for the first time.
