My Friend Harvey — Parktheater Bensheim, Bensheim

Elwood P. Dowd is a charming, peaceable gentleman who enjoys whisky and sees something good in everyone. Yet to the dismay of his sister Veta and the rest of the family, he is constantly accompanied by an invisible-yet-visible friend and drinking companion - the rabbit Harvey. But Harvey is more than mere imagination: he is a "puka," a spirit in animal form. At least that is what Elwood claims.

The constant presence of the 2.10-meter-tall white rabbit tests the patience of those around him. Some even swear they see him themselves. In desperation, Veta makes a drastic decision: she wants to have her beloved brother committed to a mental institution - hoping she can finally return to a "normal" social life.

But Elwood's disarming kindness does not stop at the institution's walls. His charming manner confuses not only the staff but ultimately causes even the renowned chief psychiatrist Dr. Chumley to doubt his own perception. Just before the "healing procedure" that is meant to end the matter once and for all, Elwood's family makes an unexpected decision…!

My Friend Harvey achieved great success on Broadway long before the famous film adaptation with James Stewart (1950). This Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by Mary Chase poses the age-old question about reality and illusion in the most amusing way: who here is truly mad - and who is sane? A timeless, thought-provoking work that, with subtle humor, casts a surprising light on so-called civilized society and remains remarkably relevant for modern audiences!
