Maxi Schafroth - Faszination Bayern
Renitenztheater, Stuttgart, Germany
Winner of the Goldener Stuttgarter Besen 2014 award, Maxi Schafroth is back! Following his first solo programme "Faszination Allgäu", cabaret artist Maxi Schafroth seamlessly continues his bizarre journey of observation. "Faszination Bayern" is the second milestone of his long-planned cabaret trilogy. According to Schafroth, the idea came to him at age seven when he touched an electric cattle fence in Gumpratsried near Eggisried. "That was consciousness-expanding!" says Schafroth, who during his apprenticeship as a bank clerk at the Chamber of Commerce also received solid cabaret training.
In "Faszination Bayern", the journey leads from the economically disadvantaged Allgäu region, across the Lech, to the celebrated university city of Munich. There Maxi Schafroth encounters Starnberg dentists' children in SUVs, Munich intellectuals in mustard-yellow corduroy trousers, and trendy couples sporting wood-look glasses.
From BayWa Ottobeuren to the Manufactum rubber boot shelf at Munich's Marienhofe, Maxi Schafroth brings us closer to the diversity of Germany's largest federal state and acts as a nationwide cultural coach for tolerance and coexistence. Using well-researched historical evidence, he sensitizes audiences to Bavarian history and explains the origins of the first Bavarian settler and ancestor "Eusebius the Invertebrate" from the 9th century and his 40-strong peasant army, the "Frusthaufen", which in the so-called "hedgehog formation" marched on foot all the way to Damascus.
On his converted ancestral farm, Maxi Schafroth provides relief for burned-out high achievers. His resocialization centre for bankrupt bankers and the mountain hut seminar "Loslassen!" for overstretched "helicopter parents" earned him a nomination for "Entrepreneur of the Year" in his home municipality of Stephansried and catapulted him overnight onto Wikipedia as the second most prominent person in the 78-resident village.
