Award-winning organist and composer Hayo Boerema (b. 1972) from Rotterdam is the titular organist of the largest organ in the Netherlands: the 85-stop Marcussen organ in the Laurenskerk Rotterdam.
A versatile performer, Hayo has won numerous prizes at international organ competitions, including Vienna (1998), Nuremberg (1999), St Albans (2001), Nijmegen (2004) and Kotka (2005). That same year he was appointed titular organist of the Laurenskerk Rotterdam. In 2009 he received the Silver Medal of the Académie Arts-Sciences-Lettres in Paris for his outstanding work as an interpreter of French organ music.
Today Hayo champions the development of organ music worldwide and is invited to perform across the globe. He also takes part regularly in radio and television productions, both as a soloist and in collaboration with professional ensembles such as the Laurens Collegium.
Alongside his performing career, Hayo is a professor of organ at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He gives masterclasses in interpretation and improvisation internationally and serves as a juror at major competitions, including the long-established International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem.
