Peter Pan - after J.M. Barrie — Gostner Hoftheater, Nuremberg

"Only the joyful, the innocent, and the heartless can fly."

The story of Peter and Wendy needs little introduction: a boy who refuses to grow up persuades a girl on the cusp of adulthood to fly with him to the eerily beautiful Neverland. Together with the Lost Boys, they live through countless adventures - above all the battle against Peter's arch-enemy Captain Hook, which Peter ultimately wins. In the end, though, Wendy returns to the real world and her family, while Peter remains forever a child.

Yet behind this familiar tale lies far more than a straightforward good-versus-evil story. Look closer and it becomes clear that life in Neverland is far less idyllic than many adaptations suggest.

Director Laurent Gröflin approaches J.M. Barrie's famous material from a fresh angle: is growing up really a loss? Or is it more of a challenge? And who is Peter Pan, truly - a radiant hero, or something closer to the opposite?
