Dominik "Dodokay" Kuhn - "Antisocial Media - On the Pros and Cons of Digital Communication" — Rosenau - Lokalität & Bühne, Stuttgart

Dominik Kuhn, media expert, entrepreneur, and lecturer, surprises those who know him under the pseudonym "Dodokay" as a comedian with his lectures. Since the late 1990s, he has worked professionally with media and digitalization, which is also why he built one of the early careers in social media as a comedian. It is all the more surprising for many that in this lecture too he doesn't have only praise for this medium...

But: nobody wants to hear criticism of social media anymore - Dominik Kuhn doesn't either. It's far more interesting to look at digital communication itself, where it all started, and understand why it has such enormous effects on society as a whole. Never in human history have we communicated as intensively as we do today: vast amounts of messages, videos, and images are shared daily. It is estimated that 97% of all photographs in human history were created in 2017. Yet few people ask themselves whether we really need all these selfies, food photos, mood updates, and cat pictures. Worse still: hardly anyone notices that this communication overload - despite all its advantages - undermines the effectiveness of private and professional processes. The fact that conspiracy theories and fake news are spreading again even in what seems like an enlightened age appears to bother only a minority. In this lecture, Dominik Kuhn explains how this media hype came about in the first place and what it does to our brains. In doing so, he touches on - as is his custom - a few points that you don't often hear, and clearly shows that the path to success also lies in not blindly adopting every new form of communication.
