Däumeline - based on a fairy tale by H.C. Andersen — Haus der Jugend, Mainz

A woman whose deepest wish is to have a child plants a magical barleycorn in the earth. From it grows a tiny girl - barely the size of a thumb, and so she comes to be called Däumeline. One day she is kidnapped by a toad, but manages to escape. From then on she must make her way alone through a world entirely foreign to her, searching for the path home. Butterflies and cockchafers may be just as small, but they are no true friends or companions. Will Däumeline find happiness in this often cold world? Perhaps the swallow's song holds the answer.

"Däumeline" is already the third stage adaptation of an Andersen fairy tale directed by Philip Barth for the independent theatre Junge Bühne Mainz - following "Die kleine Meerjungfrau" (2019-2022) and "Der mutige Zinnsoldat & die Papiertänzerin" (2022-2025). The literary fairy tales of Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen have been a permanent fixture in the ensemble's repertoire since 2019.
