Autumn Concert of the Hessian Youth Wind Orchestra — Landesmusikakademie Hessen, Schlitz

The Hessian Youth Wind Orchestra presents an exciting programme in its autumn concert, bridging tradition and contemporary works in symphonic wind orchestra literature. At the centre stands Paul Hindemith's groundbreaking "Symphony in Bb", which has profoundly shaped the development of the modern wind orchestra. Works by Karel Husa and Václav Nelhybel demonstrate the influence of European composers on the American wind orchestra scene, while the second half of the concert, featuring John Mackey's "Soprano Saxophone Concerto" and Dana Wilson's "Dance of the New World", turns the focus to the present day.

John Mackey's saxophone concerto is a special highlight of the evening: Malte Hornbostel, a musician from the orchestra's own ranks, takes on the demanding solo part. Under the baton of guest conductor Björn Zimmermann, the audience can expect a varied concert evening full of tonal colours and energy.

Duration of the event approximately 2 hours including interval.

Since 2008, the Hessian Youth Wind Orchestra (LJBO) has brought together talented young musicians aged 14 to 25. Twice a year, members meet to work on demanding pieces under the direction of Jens Weismantel or experienced guest conductors. The orchestra is a selective ensemble, entry to which is by audition.
