Wenzel im Trio - The Time of the Mad and Idiots — Kirche Sankt Johannis, Brandenburg

Wenzel remains true to himself and cares neither for pigeonholes nor fashionable attitudes. His work draws from an apparently inexhaustible source. In recent years, Wenzel has surprised audiences with numerous CD productions. New, unpublished songs, musical settings of texts by Johannes R. Becher, Christoph Hein, Theodor Kramer, and Woody Guthrie. In October 2024, Wenzel released "Strandgut der Zeiten" - after years, once again an album with his own texts and compositions. Melancholic, full of life, subversive, warm-hearted, cynical, delicate, and direct.

Wenzel remains a fugitive from the world's demands. With bittersweet irony, he defies the turbulent sea. A lover who never loved halfway and never played softly with his fool's bells, one who gives and takes with full hands, a sage on whose ark eternal pairs embrace: happiness and rage, love and time, flight and shelter, moment and epoch.

In the grey morning hours, between doubts and weariness, the songs find their final form. The world is out of joint. On the wounds of our hope, melodies and words search for the right place. Songs carried by soft and determined tones of guitars, bass, accordion, brass, drums, and piano.

Wenzel is an author, composer, musician, singer, actor, and director. His tours have taken him through France, Austria, the USA, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Turkey. Wenzel has shared the stage with Arlo Guthrie, Randy Newman, Billy Bragg, and many other musicians.
