Audictionary - The A-Z of Auditions

Guest performance by the theatre group of Eichendorff Gymnasium Ettlingen.

Audictionary is a portmanteau of "audition" and "dictionary". The production carries the subtitle "The A-Z of Auditions". The story takes place in a fictional acting school where a commission of three experienced but highly idiosyncratic instructors tests candidates in the third and final round of the entrance examination.

Based on real acting schools and their entrance exams, the audience encounters both the candidates with their prepared monologues and the school's training modules. Additionally, insights into the jury's private lives are revealed, creating a colourful panorama of theatre people towards whom the spectators cannot help but feel either sympathy or rejection.

As in reality, at the end of the auditions it is decided who is admitted to the school and who receives "all the best for the next audition".

The production is based on a concept developed in 2006 by actress Elinor Eidt and Michael Polty, which has since been realised multiple times at various schools and by amateur theatres. Each staging is different because only the commission is a fixed element, while the other characters - the candidates - develop their own roles and find suitable monologues for them. The same applies to this production: the chosen monologues became improvisations on the finished audition scenes, which are now finally presented.

Under the direction of Michael Polty and Alix Savin (technical direction: Pascal Seifried), an exciting performance is created for the audience in which one can experience the vibrant atmosphere of an audition.
