Kids im Park: fossil hunting and identification
Museumspark Rüdersdorf, Rüdersdorf bei Berlin, Germany
45 €
Few things beat a proper treasure hunt - and our treasure chest is over 250 million years old and packed to the brim. On these geological guided tours, after a short introduction, you head out with an expert guide into an active open-cast quarry. Time to roll up your sleeves and keep your eyes peeled. We can't promise you'll find a dinosaur, but fossils and other specimens are quite literally everywhere. Back at Museumspark Rüdersdorf, a specialist will help you identify everything you've dug up.
Tour details:
Because the quarry is active, special safety rules apply. Helmets, protective goggles and high-visibility vests are provided and must be worn throughout the tour. Sturdy, closed-toe footwear is mandatory for all participants. Hammers are also supplied.
We recommend bringing a fabric bag or backpack to carry your finds. The terrain is sloped and the activity requires a reasonable level of physical fitness. Transport to and from the meeting point is by off-road vehicle across rough ground.
Minimum age is 6 years. Children may only take part when accompanied by an adult. The open quarry is exposed to the elements - prolonged dry spells can cause dusty conditions, while extended rain can make the ground very muddy and slippery.
