Music Cabaret: Lucy van Kuhl "Geschickt verpackt"

We live in an age where packaging often seems more important than content: a plain chocolate bar becomes an exclusive taste event through advertising, the caretaker gets the title of facility manager instead of a pay rise, and love no longer arrives with Cupid's random arrow but algorithmically via Tinder and Parship. German Heinz Günter dresses up in a striped shirt and beret for his French holiday - and is baffled that, baguette under each arm, nobody takes him for Jean Pierre.

In her fifth programme, Lucy van Kuhl wraps her observations with considerable skill: absurd reflections are swathed in gentle piano notes, tiny marginal details examined through a poetic magnifying glass, and the gloom of a care home is transformed by a coat of imagination into an exhilarating over-80s party. Delicate melancholy collides with raucous nonsense, classical piano with boogie woogie - and Lucy's overflowing imagination holds it all together with apparent ease.
