Programme:
"Through his work as a musician, bandleader, teacher, multidisciplinary artist and scholar, he plays a vital role as a custodian of jazz's cultural heritage" - so ruled the jury of Amherst College in Massachusetts, which awarded Jason Moran the title of "Doctor of Arts" in May 2024. At the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, the pianist soon after demonstrated his commitment to the jazz tradition by celebrating "125 Years of Duke Ellington" with the hr-Bigband.
Moran continually engages with a wide range of styles - from swing to hip-hop - shedding new light on them through installations and multimedia projects. In this solo piano recital, he is expected to perform both his own compositions and pieces by masters such as James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, and jazz legend Thelonious Monk, all delivered in his unmistakable voice.
Duration: approx. 2 hours (incl. interval)
