"Entzug" opens with a vodka bottle on the kitchen table of a three-person family - and the question of how it got there. Did the narrator leave it behind while his wife and child were at the playground? At the heart of the novel is a writer who drinks in order to write, think, and feel. Eventually, he drinks only to face the question: drink and die, or quit and live? He checks himself into a clinic. "Entzug" is brutally honest, exploring the complicated logistics of addiction, the betrayal of loved ones - and self-betrayal. It tells the story of the path out of addiction, the return to life.

Christoph Peters, born in 1966 in Kalkar, has received numerous awards for his books. He lives in Berlin. His most recent work, "Innerstädtischer Tod" (2025), completes his trilogy inspired by Wolfgang Koeppen.
