Schwanen - Puppet Theatre (Almost) Without Words
KUBIZ, Unterhaching, Germany
Puppet theatre (almost) without words - freely adapted from H. C. Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling"
For all ages from 4
Direction, puppets and performance: Eva Sotriffer
Music: Max Castlunger
Too big, too long, too thin, too wobbly, too grey, too slow, too clumsy! The little duckling just can't catch a break: it bumps into everything, fits in nowhere, and is ugly to boot - even as an egg it looked nothing like the others. It stumbles from one awkward situation to the next, running into loneliness, exclusion, rejection and more than a little cruelty. But then something begins to stir inside it. Where did that wing suddenly come from?
Drawing on the beloved fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, "Schwanen" questions what we mean by "beautiful" and "ugly" - and why it is so hard to see yourself for what you truly are.
Eva Sotriffer has worked since 2010 as a puppet performer, puppet maker and author of her own pieces. Her shows are mostly nonverbal, but never without music.
