Rafik Schami, born in Damascus in 1946, is the great Oriental storyteller of German literature. His novels - poetic, humorous, and political in equal measure - explore exile and memory, freedom, friendship, and love (including "Die geheime Mission des Kardinals" and "Die dunkle Seite der Liebe"). His performances, delivered entirely from memory, have become the stuff of legend. Now Rafik Schami bids farewell to the stage with one final grand evening. His long-time editor Tatjana Michaelis (Hanser Verlag) and Manesse publisher Horst Lauinger will speak about the magic of his writing and the gift of his friendship. Then the stage is all Schami's, as he presents his novel "Das Mosaik der Frauen" in the way only he can. Happy birthday!
