Lineage

LINEAGE is a drag theatre piece that traces the winding search for our queer heritage - a line of descent that defies the norms of logic and blood kinship, connecting people through experiences that mirror and echo one another.

Through Corazón, a Valencian drag artist, we embark on an emotional, heartbreaking and subversive journey exploring the lives of various icons and figures who form the backbone of LGBT+ culture. Over the course of ninety minutes, the protagonist guides us through musical and visual performances to different milestones that make up a constellation of queer relationships.

Starting from the ghostly presence of her grandmother, we trace a path through icons such as Rampova, Almodóvar and Grace Jones, touching on themes like LGBT+ exile, subversion in nightlife, folklore and the role of religion as culture. Earlier this year the show toured Spain across four cities, where each night two guest artists from the local scene extended the concept of LINEAGE in their own way. This time, one artist from each of those cities comes to Berlin to show what it means to be a queer artist in their city - weaving a LINEAGE of shimmer and wound.
