Someone and Elsewhere - The Life of Mascha Kaléko
Kulturhaus Frankfurt, Germany
We have no other time than this. - Or do we?
After her husband's death, Mascha Kaléko visits Berlin once more in 1974 to rent a small artist's apartment there. During her stay, she is interviewed by a journalist who presents her with an unusual discovery: her son Steven Vinaver, who died a few years earlier and worked as a dramatist and director himself, wrote a play about his famous mother. He gathered all the important biographical and literary events of her life into a tribute. What a sensation it would be to bring "The Life of Mascha Kaléko" to the stage!
Mascha embarks on a journey through time back into her own life. She is accompanied by three celebrated actresses of her era, whom she considers capable and suited to play her stage character. She encounters again the important people who accompanied her throughout her life and shaped it. It is an incredible opportunity to revisit things once more, to speak them aloud - or to say some things in different words.
What was my yesterday, I try to fathom. And behold, I remember it only vaguely.
