Verse und Vibrato - Opera meets Poetry Slam
Romanfabrik, Frankfurt, Germany
6 €
At Romanfabrik, professional opera singers and accomplished spoken-word artists share a stage for the first time. The concept takes the traditional poetry slam to another level: music and word enter an interplay that hasn't been tried before. Familiar characters from the operatic repertoire are seen from a fresh angle, gaining new meaning through their encounter with the spoken word.
How well do I actually know Carmen's famous "Habanera"? Could teaming up with a poet reveal something I've never noticed? The punch of spoken language collides with the metaphysics of music, producing a wholly new sensory experience charged with tension and raw feeling. Opera and poetry slam have never looked quite like this.
Hosting the evening is opera director, playwright, and professional spoken-word poet Aileen Schneider (on permanent staff at Frankfurter Oper 2020-2025, her own productions at the house, Götz-Friedrich-Preis for her staging of Reimann's "Melusine" at Oper Frankfurt).
Performing: Wehwalt Koslovsky, Aileen Schneider, Nora Solcher (poetry), Liviu Holender, Anna Nekhames, Julia Werner (opera), and Lukas Rommelspacher (piano).
