Kontrapunkte: Bach | Moondog | Gershwin - Saxophone Sound Rediscovered - with the Tübinger Saxophon-Ensemble
Augustinum Heidelberg, Germany

Baroque meets the big city, structure meets freedom: in "Kontrapunkte", the Tübinger Saxophon-Ensemble brings together the sound worlds of Johann Sebastian Bach, New York minimalist Moondog, and jazz classic George Gershwin.
Johann Sebastian Bach's music has shaped generations of composers. Strict forms unfold into surprising harmonies, pulsating rhythms, and a driving inner energy. Moondog - the "Viking of 5th Avenue" - takes a very different approach to musical order: his hypnotic canons bridge the gap to the present, precisely constructed yet full of swing. George Gershwin adds another counterpoint: in his legendary "Rhapsody in Blue", he fuses classical architecture with jazz, blues, and urban feeling - music of elegance, wit, and rhythmic sophistication.
The Tübinger Saxophon-Ensemble was founded in 1997. The ensemble spans the full range from soprano to bass saxophone, joined by two percussionists. With a wide repertoire stretching from Baroque through Romanticism to music with contemporary influences, the ensemble has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Wiener Musikverein - and now comes to the stage of Augustinum in Heidelberg!
