Chara Kotsali - "IT'S THE END OF THE AMUSEMENT PHASE"

The end of the world hasn't come yet, nor has the end of history. One thing is certain: the fun is over. In IT'S THE END OF THE AMUSEMENT PHASE, three dancers take the audience on a rollercoaster of emotions, facts, images and parades. They march, dance, smash a birthday cake - and refuse to give up.

Drawing on references to Bob Fosse, Trisha Brown and Beyoncé, the piece develops a movement vocabulary between automatism and excess, carried by a dense, almost overdriven soundscape: high-frequency guitar riffs and driving percussion. Between personal and collective history, the work places the dancing body at the centre of attention.

The piece has been nominated for the Sadler's Wells Bloom Prize 2027 and is part of the Aerowaves selection 2026 and the Moving Balkans selection 2026.

Chara Kotsali works as a choreographer, performer and educator in Greece. She graduated from the Rallou Manou Professional School of Dance, studied theatre studies and earned a master's degree in social and cultural anthropology; she also completed professional drum training at the Modern Music School. In her choreographic practice, she combines methods from anthropology, documentary art, music and performative arts, with a particular focus on questions of sound and movement politics.
