Chara Kotsali - "IT'S THE END OF THE AMUSEMENT PHASE" — tanzhaus nrw, Düsseldorf

The end of the world hasn't come yet. Neither has the end of history. One thing is certain: the fun is over! In "IT'S THE END OF THE AMUSEMENT PHASE", three electrifying dancers take the audience on a rollercoaster of emotions, facts, images and parades - so intense that your head spins. They march, they dance, they smash a birthday cake. And above all: they don't give up. Drawing on artists from Bob Fosse through Trisha Brown to Beyoncé, a vocabulary of movement emerges between automatism and excess, carried by a dense, almost overdriven soundscape: high-frequency guitar riffs and driving percussion that knocks your heartbeat out of sync. Between personal and collective history, the piece places the dancing body at the centre of attention.

The piece has been nominated for the Sadler's Wells Bloom Prize 2027. It is part of the Aerowaves selection 2026 and the Moving Balkans selection 2026.

Chara Kotsali works as a choreographer, performer and educator in Greece. She graduated from the Rallou Manou Professional School of Dance. She studied theatre studies and holds a master's degree in social and cultural anthropology. She also completed professional percussion training at the Modern Music School. She explores choreography and performance with an expanded approach, incorporating methods from anthropology, documentary art, music and performative arts. Her focus is on questions of sound and movement politics. Her works have been nominated for the Aerowaves platform selection in the years Twenty24 and Twenty26.
