Söhne Mannheims Jazz Department — Alter Stadtsaal, Rathaushof, Speyer

The "Jazzheads" of Söhne Mannheims - guitarist Kosho, bassist Edward Maclean and drummer Ralf Gustke - are bringing a premiere to the Speyerer Gitarrensommer: Söhne guitarist Thilo Zirr joins as a special guest, marking the first time both guitarists Kosho and Thilo Zirr share a stage at a Söhne Mannheims Jazz Department concert. Joe Reinhuber on tenor saxophone rounds out the lineup as a second special guest.

Söhne Mannheims Jazz Department hit the top 5 of the German iTunes Jazz Charts straight out of the gate with their self-titled debut album. Jazzpodium magazine called it "sensitive and tastefully restrained"; Jazzthing described "elegantly flowing music". The debut reimagined Söhne Mannheims hits such as "Das hat die Welt noch nicht gesehen" and "Geh davon aus" as delicate jazz arrangements with refined phrasing and inventive rhythmic shifts - a fresh take on contemporary jazz. Alongside the band's hits, the programme includes original compositions and covers of selected jazz and pop classics.
