Historix-Tours: World War I, Nazis, Dictatorship - Themed Tour — Rathausplatz Freiburg, Freiburg im Breisgau

Historix-Tours focuses on National Socialism in Freiburg.

The Third Reich is a dark chapter in Freiburg's city history and a highly complex subject. On this roughly one-hour tour, we illuminate several aspects and aim to inspire people to form their own thoughts about that era and the prevailing patterns of thinking at the time. Not interactive, but told in a quiet narrative style that leaves room for silent reflection.

Guided by the question of how democracy became a dictatorship in just under two months in 1933, we examine individual historical events. And if you wish, you can reflect on whether we stand at a similar point today - or whether we live in entirely different times.

We explain why World War I broke out. What came after. Why so many people shared Hitler's extreme views. How the NSDAP came to power. How Hitler himself established himself as dictator, even though the NSDAP won "only" 33% in the last free election. And we explore the questions: Is democracy really important? Could this happen today? How did people think then and now?

Not suitable for children and young people under 16 years old.
The meeting point is at the main entrance of St. Martin's Church on Rathausplatz.
